Great Whites

Great White Sharks were given a bad reputation by Hollywood(the movies Jaws 1,Jaws 2,Jaws 3,and Jaws 4.). They really only hunt seals, sea birds, large fish, sea loins, porpoises, other sharks, and turtles.The only time a Great White would hunt a human would be if they were on a surfboard paddling out to meet a wave. But don’t worry the chances are more likely for you to drown in your bathtub than to get attacked by a shark.

Great Whites are also called White Sharks, White Death, White Pointer, and Blue Pointer. They grow up to 24 feet long. They live all over the world. They live in coastal habitats.

Flying Squirrels

These furry creatures “fly” by jumping from tree to tree. But they don’t actually “fly”; they glide. Although they are called ”flying” squirrels they do glide. They have flaps under each arm to help them glide. These animals can be noticed by their tail. It is unusually long. Besides when it is “flying” there is nothing else unusual about it. They are 11 inches long. They live in rain forests,cloud forests,wetlands,temperate forests,boreal forests,and plains. They eat acorns,pine leaves,buds,insects,fruits,and vegetables . They are very shy. They build nests out of twigs,pines,and flowers.

Harp Seals

Harp seals live in the North Pole. They leave their mothers at 14 days old. Harp seal babies are completely white to match the snow. Grown ups are white with gray markings. Harp seals eat cod and other fish, krill and plankton. Harp seals give birth during February and March. Baby harp seal coats shed after after 3 weeks and when they are finished shedding, they are like the grownups coats. Babies are the size of skunks.

Glyptodons

Glyptodons were the size of a large truck! They ate coniferous and deciduous leaves. Glyptodons and armadillos have 5 things in common and 5 things that are different. Things in common:

They both have shells. They both have the same face. They both have bony tails. They both have small font feet. They both have big back feet.

Different things:

Glyptodons lived in the past and armadillos live now. Glyptodons were MUCH MUCH BIGGER then armadillos! Glyptodons didn’t have layers on there shells and armadillos did. Glyptodons can kill a sader-tooth cat!But, armadillo can’t kill anything bigger or fiercer than it.

Kit Foxes

Kit Foxes live in deserts in the Southwestern USA and Northwestern Mexico. Kit Foxes live in prairies and desserts. Adults have pale fur and large ears. Kit Foxes eat rodents, rabbits and insects. Young Kit Foxes are called cubs. They live in dens. Kit Foxes don’t hunt together. Kit Foxes are in a family called Canidae. Kit Foxes have long and bushy tails. They run then leap with a hunched back and then pounce to catch small rodents.

Ocelots

Ocelots eat mammals weighing less than 2 pounds. Ocelots are found in tropical and sub tropical places such as southern Texas, Mexico , Central American & South American. Ocelots live in rock caves. They are medium-sized with fur markings which are soil brown or black. Ocelots are part of the Felis family. They have ears that are rounded with white fur. Ocelots markings are really hard to tell apart. So if you see one in the zoo and see one in the wild, don’t mistake them for the same one.

Red Pandas

My first animal will be a red panda. Red pandas live in the Himalayas. They love to eat bamboo, grass, roots, fruit & acorns. They are relatives of raccoons and they are relatives of bears, but they are closer to raccoons than bears. They live in hollowed out logs and holes that are already in the stone and they dig the gravel out. They are my favorite animals. There is one at the Turtleback Zoo if you want to see it with your own eyes. You can also see two at the Bronx Zoo and you can see one at the Central Park Zoo.

Red Pandas are the size of an ocelot. Red pandas are herbivores.
